IMSAR’s Ground Moving Target Indicator (GMTI) radar capability gives you the power to detect and monitor vehicles, personnel, and other moving objects on land in real time. Operating in all weather conditions, day or night, GMTI ensures mission-critical situational awareness—when and where you need it most.
What Is GMTI?
GMTI uses advanced Doppler radar processing to identify moving objects against stationary backgrounds such as terrain, infrastructure, or vegetation. By filtering out static clutter, GMTI delivers accurate, geolocated target tracks—so you know exactly what’s moving, where it is, and where it’s going.
GMTI Key Features
- Real-time target detection – Isolates moving targets from static clutter
- Accurate geolocation – High positional precision for confident target identification
- Multi-target tracking – Follow multiple movers across wide areas simultaneously
- Day/night, all-weather performance – Maintain coverage when optical sensors are impaired
- Platform flexibility – Works on manned and unmanned aircraft
Why IMSAR GMTI?
IMSAR’s GMTI is part of a multi-mode radar suite that includes SAR imaging, Coherent Change Detection (CCD), and Maritime MTI. Operators can scan wide areas, and overlay GMTI tracks with other sensor data for complete operational intelligence.
Tracks are displayed in Lisa 3D mission software with intuitive color-coded symbols:
Yellow dots – Targets moving away
Magenta dots – Targets moving toward
Directional arrows – Indicate movement path and speed
Typical GMTI Applications
- Military ISR – Detect and track vehicles in operational areas
- Border surveillance – Monitor cross-border movement in remote locations
- Counter-smuggling – Identify and follow suspicious ground traffic
- Disaster response – Locate moving teams or evacuees in emergency zones
- Anti-poaching operations – Detect illegal movement in protected areas
